Use of coveralls as an alternative option for non-surgical gowns

The Health and Safety Executive have now approved the use of disposable coveralls as an equivalent alternative to non-surgical disposable gowns for the same indications as recently published in PPE Guidance on 6 April.

  • Letter to NHS Trust CEOs, NHS Trust Medical Directors, NHS Directors of Nursing and NHS Trust procurement leads.

  • Putting on (donning) personal protective equipment (PPE) including coveralls for aerosol generating procedures (AGPs).

  • Removal of (doffing) personal protective equipment (PPE) including coveralls for aerosol generating procedures (AGPs).

  • Additional considerations, in addition to standard infection prevention and control precautions.

  • Recommended PPE for ambulance staff, paramedics, other patient transport services and pharmacy staff.

  • Recommended PPE for healthcare workers by secondary care inpatient clinical setting, NHS and independent sector.

  • Recommended PPE for primary, outpatient, community and social care by setting, NHS and independent sector.
