Palliative care for patients with severe COVID-19

14 August 2020

Providing high quality, compassionate and holistic palliative care for patients and their families is a sensitive and demanding part of any health professional’s work, all the more so in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic and the changes it has forced upon the NHS and wider care system.

This document from the BMJ provides guidance on the palliative approach to the management of patients with severe Covid-19 in hospital and community settings, focusing on the management of distressing symptoms, planning ahead, communicating with patients and their families, and grief and bereavement.
